We are excited to announce the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s first annual Harambee Gala Dinner. Bringing us all together to celebrate an iconic species and to raise funds for the further protection of that species, the elephant.
Elephants are being poached at their highest levels for a decade, with demand for ivory, to be used to make ornaments and hankos, soaring. While a human population now exceeding 7 billion means that the pressure on land is increasing, people and wildlife competing for the same limited space to live.
To be held at the impressive Plaisterers’ Hall in Central London on Friday 28th September 2012, the DSWT Harambee Gala Dinner is a celebration of the charity’s and Dame Daphne’s efforts over the last half century to understand elephants. To find ways that this flagship species, critical to the ecosystem, can be protected and can live in harmony with the people. It is also an opportunity to focus attention on the current threats faced by the elephant and together, to raise funds for the protection of this most gentle, caring and critically important animal.
To remind yourself of the work of the DSWT in protecting elephants, including those orphaned through poaching and human-wildlife conflict, please watch the video below.
It’s set to be a fabulous night, with exquisite food, music, dancing, a silent auction and all in the company of the founder of the charity, world renowned elephant authority, Dame Daphne Sheldrick. There will also be a live auction on the night, to raise essential funds for our projects in Kenya – after all, the purpose of this event is to celebrate the African elephant, our efforts to protect it and to secure essential funds to implement more life saving projects in Kenya.
